Adding an unsupported GPS to the APM 2.5+ board

Hey guys, first post, getting into UAVs, here's my scenario.

I just received my APM 2.5+ board through my school. Unfortunately, when they ordered the board, they left off the Mediatek GPS. Instead, I'm forced to make another GPS compatible with the board.

The GPS chip I'm working with is a SirfStar III. Model: C3-370C.

Where would I start in trying to program either the board to accept the GPS, or the GPS to send the right data to the board?
