Adding extra functions to MinimOSD

I have started to add functions to MinimOsd code.

At first i did it for myself only. Added many functions i thought i need. Then opened this thread.

after a while, Pedro and later Miguel came, and things started to happen fast. :D

They have optimised the code and added even more things to it.

They have worked hard on CT, and it became a great tool!

Thank you Bough! :)

By now MinimOSD-Extra got a pretty advanced OSD.

Here it is in action:

Added:

- Changeable unit measurement (US, metric)

- Airspeed

- Home alt

- Battery Percent

- Battery used mah

- Current Draw

- Time From Startup (cleared at takeoff to show exact flight time)

- OSD Menu

- Variometer

- Wind horizontal speed and direction, and also the average wind speed of the last few minutes.

- OSD on/off

- Switchable secound screen

- WP distance

- WP heading

- Crosstrack error

- Warning messages for Lost GPS fix, Stall, Overspeed, battery volt, battery Percent, RSSI

- Efficiency, glide distance & thermic notifier. 3 in one panel

- OSD Brightness

- HAM Call Sign

- After flight summary

- Trip distance

- Temperature

- Smoothened horizon

- Real heading

- RSSI

- Vertical speed

This functions can be turned on and off, and placed on different screens now, by the Config. tool.

Also RSSI, switching mode and channel and unit measurement, Stall speed warning, Overspeed warning, Battery warning volt, Battery percent warning, RSSI warning,  can be set in new Config Tool.

We built in a new way of setting video standards. Now OSD does not guessing anymore :). You can set it fixed from CT. It is in "Video Mode" menu.

Here is how it looks: (This video is a bit outdated, sorry. I will make a new one soon.)

The MinimOSD-Extra project is here: Link

This project is the developing version of the official Arducam OSD located here: Link

The latest stable version is: 2.2

The latest version can be downloaded from here: MinimOSD-Extra R800

Username: MinimOSD_Extra

Password: Top_Secret

CT is included. (The FW for Plane, Copter, Character upload and the character file is in the "FW & Char" directory inside CT directory)

We are sharing it to see videos you make using it! :)

Enjoy

        • Hi Miguel,

Perfect explanation (re vertical speed scaling) - thank you.

  • Hello,

I'm kinda new here, but not new to copters. I'm using a MinimOSD with FW 2.3.2.0 r727 and I've put my OSD at the ground station feeding a parallel Rx from my DroidPlanner on Nexus7 and 3DR telemetry radio. Data is coming from a PixHawk. With the original FW I coundn't get the mode toggle to work using a 3 pos. switch on ch7. Now it is working fine until I get a warning. When the warning goes away, let's say a GPS lock warning, I can't toggle the screens anymore.

    Is this normal behaviour?

Many thanks to the programmers for adding the extra features!

    Greetings from Belgium,

    Ivo

    • Hi Ivo,

Could you try the latest copter pre-release r785

It's a pre-release but don't worry since it is very stable now.

Also use the latest CT Tool r788 that I just posted.

The charset to be used is MinimOSD_2.4.0.0.mcm which is inside CT Tool folder.

After that update and if you could please post a video. It's a valuable tool for me and Gábor to debug possible issues ;)

      Miguel

      • Still the same problem, but only sometimes. It works nice untill I got a "No GPS Fix" msg, from then on I can't switch the modes anymore. Because my copter is not armed (testing on my bureau with a PSU as the weather is too bad to fly) I do get a summary every 10 seconds. But now the problem is not always after a warning, I will try to figure out when it happens so you can replicate.

On DroidPlanner 2 I can see that ch7 is going from 1000-1500-2000 so there is no problem getting the ch7 over the telemetry.

        • Hi Ivo,

If you have not disabled "Warnings Auto Panel Switch" then it should stay in the setted panel as long as there is a warning to be shown. Could this be the issue your getting? If so, you may just disable the auto panel switch.

I'll be changing the code so that at startup that flight summary won't appear.

          Miguel

          • Hi Miguel,

no, even after the warning is gone I, now sometimes, can not switch modes. If the problem occurs I have to reset the MinimOSD, no way to get it back to work. Weird that now it only happens sometimes.

I disabled the panel auto switching and now the issue is gone. Not a big deal as the warnings also show up in the blanked screen.

            Ivo

            • Ivo,

"Even when warning is gone" - Do you mean gone from osd or really gone?

What I mean is that even if the warning is not shown in osd but it exists in fact (the "transparent" part of the warnings blinking) then the warning is there indeed. In these case you shouldn't be able to switch panels (with the auto panel switch on off course).

              Miguel

              • No I mean really gone, I tried it turning my PSU lower than the min. voltage, 10.3V in my case, and then I put it back to 12V. Also the GPS warning is gone as my PixHawk reports a green LED, when the GPS fix is bad it will blink green/yellow.

As told before for me it is not an issue anymore as I have disabled the auto panel switching.

                Thanks for your support!

          • Will try that out in a moment. There is also a thin line showing at the right bottom of the Horizon item. Hope you can see it in the picture.

            • Hi Arachnida,

That thin line is a Vertical Landing Aid. It's goal is to aid making soft landings (at least for me it works :P).

If it is vertically centered with horizon panel then copter is at home altitude. If it is at it's maximum lower position then copter is at least 5 meters high.

              Miguel
