Mikrokopter Oktokopter would have been my first choice in so far as features, stability and maturity is concerned... but it is a hell of expensive. Conrad Quadrocopter is another very good option as it only costs about £230 ex VAT and is RTF.
I would love to see a Quad UAV that has GPS waypoint navigation and autonomous landing and powering down. If this could be done with GSM commands via SMS or GPRS, that would be amazing.
I have seen some people using the BrainyBee board to achieve some of this advanced functionality, but I am sure that there are many options.
I think DIY drones or AeroQuad should be putting together ARF kits that can be sold through this site or AeroQuad. If this doesn't happen many people will just go for Mikrokopter kits or Conrad Quadrocopters as they present an easier, if more expensive, option to get into Quad flying. I see there are many parts available from the AeroQuad site but not in a "kit" form which would be helpful for newbies like me.
Anyway, I look forward to seeing the development of this project.

The landing gear is only $4 also.
This could be a really good starting point. Add motors, ESC, props eetc..
