AHRS orientation:24 = compass inconsistencies

HI all,

Stuck on this one. Got a pixfalcon at Orientation 24 in AHRS (Pitch up by 90') in a waterproof drone, with the GPS/compass at the normal horizontal orientation.

The problem is EKF is permanently red and pre-arm fails with compass inconsistencies, even though the compass displays the correct heading in mission planner. Run the compass calibrations successfully a number of times, and values look good. While sitting on the bend, heading is correct and solid.

Shouldn't the compass recognise the AHRS orientation?

If not, should I just disable the internal compass, and rely on the external compass only? I ask because the pixfalcon is buried inside a carbon tub, so it's effectiveness will be reduced anyway. I've tried this, and when wiggling the quad, the EKF fluctuates between white, yellow and red.

On 3.3.2, and everything else seems ok.
