From the some of the comments I've seen on various discussion groups, it seems that many take a dim view of the AMA's stance on autonomous operations. I recently joined the AMA to get access to a nearby flying field and while browsing through their docs, found one titled "Manually Controllable Programmed Outdoor Model Flight Operations", adopted 16 July 2011. It seems that the APM would meet the requirements, but has anyone had any interaction with their local AMA chapter on autonomous operations?

Good find--I hadn't seen that. I think that's good news. All autopilots that I know of would comply with that. It sounds like UAVs are welcome at AMA fields now!
