AMP 2.5 (v3.0.1) Best moment to switch to ALT_HOLD

Hi, if I switch to ALT_HOLD while flying and the copter is not exactly hovering, the ALT_HOLD fails. In this case the copter rise quick. Why is it so important to switch to ALT_HOLD only while the copter is hovering and is this for LOITER the same? I though that if I have trouble while flying around I can switch to a mode like ALT_HOLD or LOITER to get the copter under control again. Or is this not the meaning of the modes?

  • Gerd, here a link to something very similar to AlphaGel - in Germany too :-)

I used small blocks 10x5x5 mm below each corner of the APM

  • Parameter: THR_RATE_P is the proportional response and the default is .35. Your copter will vary quite a bit depending on the weight and thrust of your motors. If your copter oscillates up and down in alt hold, lower this value.
  • Alt.hold, as well as loiter, have a 'dead zone' mid stick to allow hovering. Between 40-60% throttle. If you enter alt hold/loiter while either above or below this zone, the copter will rise or fall respectively.
