Another Crash in Auto Mode

Hi All,

I'm flying a GAUI 500X with the APM2 and the latest firmware. I've been the flyin gthe quad for a while and last week I got it flying in Auto mode (takeoff, waypoints, and landing).

I took it out today and told it to takeoff, go to a waypoint, RTL, and land (al at 30 meters). The wind was at 10-11mph. The takeoff was fine and it got to 30m pretty easily but then it kept circling home in bigger and bigger circles. Finally its circle was big enough that it touched the last waypoint (the waypoint radius was at 2m with loiter at 5m), but than it began losing altitude while still going in a circle and it ended up hanging in a tree.

Any ideas what is going on?

-Jake

P.S. I'll post the logs tomorrow.

  • Ran through all the tests in CLI mode and found that the magentometer wasn't working properly (only went between 170 and 220 when spun in a circle). I reset the board and reloaded the firmware. The compass is now working properly.

I'll let you know if this helps it.
  • No. I had been flying in Auto for a week before the crash doing takeoffs, waypoints, loiter, RTL, and landing.

I had a crash a day before this one when the quad made a circle when I didn't tell it to and it hit a tree but I'm pretty sure that is because I didn't use the flight planner correctly.
  • was this your first time flying in auto mode?
