Hello all, merry xmas
I have been interested in quadcopters for some time. I have been flying those little ladybug quadcopter toys for a few months and now want to move to more the real thing.
I want to build/put together my own quad/hex/oct copter and have been amazed about the options on the net. So I thought it might be easier to simply say hello and ask for tips.
So here are the things I want to learn/do with my copter.
A: Putting it together from parts to a complete working model.
B: Has Arducopter, as I want to play around with waypoints, GPS, loitering.
C: Ideally I would like to put a 'go pro' on it later on, but might be getting ahead of myself.
D: Price mark under $700 NZD would be great, as once I have got my head around my first model I would like to make another and see what Arducopter can do in terms of its 'multi-UAV swarming' that it says on its page. But price isnt a biggie.
E: Lastly I like the idea of having an Oct/hex that I can change to a quad even if it means getting another frame.
Or is the simple answer just to get one of the following three?

Thank you all.

Greetings Warren,
It is OK to be a newbie, I know of no one that is born with this knowledge...yet.
It is difficult to go wrong with the any of the 3DR kits (I am not a paid representative or do I receive any compensation from 3DR or their representatives).
Why? I depends on your resources, skill, and available time.
I happen to have a large space available, the tools required, the skill set to fabricate, and the desire to make.
With little or none of that, you can make one purchase, get direction here (and on the Wiki - 3DR is in the process of 'professionalizing' their documentation I think), and build any of their kits on your kitchen table.
If you have to go low, low NZD, that changes the equation. But also ask yourself if there other ways to fund the project you might have overlooked? I sold stuff on ebay to fund most of the expensive items of my first quad. I need to sell more stuff on ebay to by the next APM, ESCs, and motors (I build my airframes). It actually took me several months to pull all my stuff together.
Often overlooked items for this hobby are:
Do not neglect looking into local resources, flyers/builders, and hobby shops. I do not know your local NZ resources but I doubt you live on the set of the net Peter Jackson movie trilogy (but if you do, imagine the pictures you could take!).
Take that first step. It is the hardest...until you try to hover.
