We are considering trying to use the Hope RF RFM69HW radio module for telemetry and low resolution/frame rate video streaming on our aerial video quad. Does anyone have any experience using this board?
It looks like it's performance is better in just about every way in comparison to the HM-TRP used on the 3DR radios, and it's a whole lot cheaper. This makes me think that maybe I'm missing something, unless the 3dr radio is just out of date.
Any tips or ideas?

The HM-TRP module is marketed as 'transparent' since you only need a serial port to send data. The RFM96HW doesn't have an programmable uController on-board. On startup you will have to send all the config parameters. I don't think the issue would be performance once configured. I do think it's more about the flexibility. You don't need a 'driver' on the APM for HM-TRP to work.
But for cost sensitive applications I can see the benefit of the module. And it supports AES which is nice.
