Anyone with recent experience flying 3DR's X8+?

Hi There,

I am trying to find out if 3DR's X8+ produces better quality videos than the IRIS+.  I have the Gopro Hero4 on my IRIS+ with all of my videos having regular blurs from high vibrations (I am flying the IRIS+ "as is" from the box) and what's worse - pretty noticeable yaw corrections during forward flights in GPS mode.  I have no idea how to fix this, and 3DR says that my IRIS+ is performing "normally".  Here is an example of what I mean with the blurriness and yaw corrections:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uqmPkFDJSu8 (the first half of the test flight - away from our position - was in Stabilize mode; the second half in GPS mode).  Does the X8+ outperform the IRIS+ in terms of video quality (assuming the use of a Gopro Hero camera)?

Thanks,

Jan

The only way to avoid yaw motion on any copter is with a 3-axis gimbal. That can be added to either the IRIS or the X8, but if you wait a week or so you may hear of something even better ;-)

    • I haven't had any issues with my X8+. It even performs well in wind. Here is a link to some video I shot with a GoPro Hero4 Silver @ 1080P 30FPS mounted in a Tarot T-2D 2 axis gimbal. https://youtu.be/5zMc1DFLG_A
    • Hi Chris,

Thanks for your reply.  It does seem to be better when flown in the Stabilize mode, however.

I am also experiencing those occasional "up and down" high vibration shakes that can be seen in the sample video.  Again, I have the original 2-axis Gopro gimbal, mounted to the quad with the brackets that came with the unit.  I tried putting a thick double-sided tape between the gimbal bracket and the fuselage, but it doesn't make any difference.  Is there a way to check the balance of the props without removing the spinners?  I've got one of those spindle-kind of prop balancers, but they only work if you can put the spindle through the prop.  Not sure what else to try, but with the yawing and the shakes in the video I am not able to use the IRIS+ for the purpose for which I had purchased it... professional aerial videos for my realtor clients.

I am looking forward to the big announcement coming soon! :)
