APM 2.5 failing after udpate

I've had an APM 2.5 for several months setting it up on the bench as I get the various sensors and up until now it has worked faultlessly. Last week I got my 3DR radios and air speed sensor to add so fired up the Mission Planner and was prompted with updates available, so I dutifully clicked the buttons to install the latest Mission Planner and 2.75 Arduplane, then it all went downhill.

Trying to connect via USB became extremely tempermental, 9 out of 10 attempts would fail whilst connection via radio was pretty much reliable. When trying to connect via USB, each time I clicked connect the heartbeat LED would stop flashing and LED's ABC would go out. When connecting with USB it was powered via the USB, same laptop, cable that I've always used. When connecting via radio it was power from a UBEC. No sensors, RCRX or any other devices/components were connected at the time.

Tonight I had a new 2.4 RCRX to test with it. I figured I would use the 'Radio calibration' screen to view the servo channel activity. So connected RCRX to APM, and APM to laptop via USB and of course it fails to connect reliably, so I go back to using the 3DR radios. I get it to connect, but the APM is behaving oddly, once I start putting in servo input from the tx, after a few moments the APM appears to lock up.

I guess, maybe it's worth reflashing again, so I go thru that and find there is also a 2.76 update. I install this, make sure the Mission Planner is up to date and try it all again, but it hasnt changed anything.

I'm now seriously regretting upgrading in the first place.

So, does this sound like a firmware problem? It certainly only started happening after the first upgrade.

Can I go back to older versions of Arduplane and Mission Planner? Where do I get them from and how do I know what versions of Arduplane are compatible with what versions of MP?

Thanks

Chris
