Hello,

This is my first time working with APM.  I just purchased an APM 2.6 with the uBlox 6M GPS module.  I am trying to set it up for the first time on my new DELL work laptop which is running Window 7, 32 bit.  The MP I installed is version 1.2.99 build 1.1.5197. 12871.

When I attach the USB cable, I do not hear the little "jingle" that usually accompanies something being plugged into any of the three USB ports.  Also, no new devices show in my device manager.  I have tried plugging it into each of the three USB ports and I get nothing different.  I have also tried plugging it into a powered USB hub.  I still get the same result.

I observed the FC itself and noticed that when I plug it into a new USB port for the first time, there is a Blue light and a red light that oscillate rapidly for a few seconds and then they go out and a red LED just blinks one long and then one short blink.  As well, there is a green LED at the other end of the FC that stays on steady.

If I move onto a different USB port, the sequence runs the same.  The first time I plug it in I get the blue and red lights which switch over to just red and the solid green light.  If I unplug the USB cord and then plug it back into the same port, the blue and red to not flash in the beginning.  It just goes right to the red LED blinking the sequence and the green LED on solid.

When I reboot the PC, I am able to try out each of the USB ports again and for the first time in each port, I get the blue and red LED flashing which changes over the the red sequence flash and the solid green.

I have scanned the forums and found others who have had similar issues.  However, I have not been able to find a fix.

I greatly appreciate all your help with this!

Jon

  • Have you tried another USB cable...... I have both a 3DR Apm and a clone, I had issues with the USB cable on the clone, connected another and bingo it worked.

    • Owen/All,

      I got it working!

      Yes.  I did try a new USB cable while at work.  And still, I got the same null results.  However, both of the USB cables I tried and had bad results with are both from the same manufacturer and intended for the same purpose...Charging a bluetooth ear piece.

      So, while at home I tried a different USB cable on a different PC that had Windows XP.  As soon as I plugged in the FC, the classic Windows "jingle" plaid and I knew I was saved!  I went through the setup as per the instructions and everything worked perfectly!

      I do not feel that it was Windows XP that resolved the issue but rather the USB cord change.  I  believe some of the USB cords included for charging some devices do not contain all the conductors for data transmission.

      Gentlemen, I greatly appreciate all your help!  You are scholars.

  • The blinking blue LED indicates the search for GPS satellites.  When it finds enough it goes solid.

    A steady blinking red LED indicates the APM is unarmed.

    Here's a nice video overview of the LEDs.

    @Jon,

    Is your APM2.6 a genuine 3DR product or is it a clone? Since you mentioned that your GPS is a uBlox 6M and the 3DR uBlox is a 6H, it sounds like you have clone hardware.

    • Its a clone.  I just took a moment to look at the GPS controller on the GPS board and it says that its a "NEO-6M-0-001"

        @Jon,

        The fact that it is a clone may be your problem. Some clones are dead out of the box because there is probably no final functional test run on the clone board before shipment.

        @Jon,

        It sounds like your APM clone's USB interface is not functional. Where did you purchase it?

  • This should help.  Instructions plus a link to the latest USB drivers.
