APM 3,0 Wishlist

Hi, Im not sure if we are going to go to APM 3.0, or straight to PX4, but  I would like to start an APM 3/Px4 wishlist, for the consideration of the Developers.

Lets Start the Ball Rolling :

1. Would like to see a SINGLE cable from the GPS/Compass to the APM. (looks like the IMU seperate to the brain will be the future of the APM in any case, but thats another discussion for another day.)

2. According to THIS VIDEO and THIS THREAD, looks like the case needs to be opaque. Not Sure about Black, as it absorbs heat, perhaps White, with some black markings? Related to this is Request #3

3. Remove the LED's from the APM (See the post in 2 above), and have an External LED connector. We all want external LED's anyway.

  • For us that fly airplanes it would be nice to have a wider range of input voltages. I would like to be able to use the same 6v power source for everything.

    .

  • Yeaaaah an optional external LED panel with lots of LEDs would be great. No more weird flashing to try remember the meaning of. One LED for IMU OK, one for GPS OK, one for RC signal OK, one for armed, .. etc. An easy part of any preflight check. Could have just 4 or 5 wires (SPI or I2C).

Onboard PWM to PPM re-coding could be replaced by an optional external board for those who still use that.

Is there any reason to believe the PX4 is not the APM3? It has been reduced again, hardly can be called fancy or costly any more.

    Regards

    Soren

  • No more Hirose DF13 series connectors. They are hard to disconnect and connect. Easy to make short circuit to side by side.

  • Has anyone seen an estimate of when the APM3 will hit the market? I would like to have one for my winter project.

My requirements are a standard receiver input and a standard servo output.

  • I fly lots of airplanes and I sure hope that the APM3 is the same size and shape as the APM 2.5. The APM 2.5 is almost perfect for – a little more computing power and memory would be a good thing.

  • Just thought of another one.

We need a buzzer to audibly tell us the Arm-Disarm state.

    For instance :

    Long beep - Arm

2 short beeps - Arming error (Possibly due to Pre-arm checklist Fail)

    4 short beeps - Disarmed

    Or Something similar

I really see this as a safety issue. when you are outdoors it is hard to see the LED's, and its hard to tell if it Armed OK.
