APM/3DR Y6 or Aphex/Event 38

Hi, all!

I have been flying a DJI Phantom for the past 4 months or so, and am ready to upgrade :)

I have mainly been using the Phantom to shoot aerial photography, but am definitely interested in the videography aspect of things. I have been hesitant to spend a lot of money on buying a gimbal for the Phantom, since in the back of my mind I have been planning on upgrading to a larger rig for some time now.

All that said, I am currently debating between the:

3DR Y6

and the

Aphex/Event 38

Anyone have any experience with either? I'm not sure I'm ready to strap my 5DMarkII on any copter yet, but am definitely looking to upgrade from the GoPro3 shots I have been taking (possibly a Canon S95). That said, it would still be nice to have the option to mount a Canon Rebel or similar on it later on if the budget allows it. It looks like the Aphex comes with a Gimbal, which I haven't quite figured out what the options for the 3DR are yet. Not really looking for FPV functionality, since I like to keep my craft in line of sight.

Any input is greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Stefan

  • Hi Stefan,

Aphex by Event38, will bring you very nice experience with reliable conditions. The Event38 founder, Jeff Taylor, isn't just a person who puts together the parts and makes it fly. But someone who develop products doing implementations, from existing ones.

In addition, he provides complete and unrestricted support, which is critical to preventing harm to customer equipment. Him is testing few Cam with good results
    in Aphex, like Samsung NX1000.

Just make contact and he will help to answer any persisting doubt that you have about.

    Good luck!

  • I built the 3dr hex and converted it to the y6 and it was rock solid. Having the bird already getting thrust from 3 direction improves your chance of surviving a motor/prop failure. I am planning to carry a small video camera with pan tilt brushless gimbal with zoom control and live video feed and control from a second transmitter.
