APM2.6 crashing

Hi,

I have bought 2x APM2.6, 2x PM and 2x GPS with compass from DIYDrones store.

Tried to initially set up one set today. I have attached a PPM receiver on Ch5, cutting and resoldering the PPM jumper on the board. This was done correctly.

I used the PM fpr powering, fed with 9V from a regulated supply. Voltage looks OK. 5.024 volts after the diode.

First thing, the APM would not see the PPM signal, although it appeared nicely on a scope from the PPM jumper.

Later I noticed the GPS was hot and did not light up. The 8 pin IC (flash storage?) near the GPS connectors was hot too. After cycling power, this behaviour stopped again.

Now after lashing newest firmware, MP says Bad gyro health. I do have gyro readings in "Status tab" though. At random times, the whole IMU just stops working.

When working, I have 2.8 volts on the pad at the tail of the "Front" arrow. When it stops working, I get weak slow pulses there.

What's the deal here, I need to return it to the US?

Regards

Soren

    @Soren,

    You may not have attached the PPM receiver correctly.

    According to these Wiki instructions it is not necessary to cut or resolder or attach the PPM receiver to Ch5: APM PPM input

    The Wiki says to put a jumper on RC inputs 2&3 and connect your PPM input to RC 1.

    • Hi,

      Yep I know. I just don't want to depend on the 2nd CPU up and running to forward the signal, when it is not needed. I did this hardware way on three 2.0s and a 2.5 in the past.

      The crash is the same with original jumpering though.

      No I have not yet contacted 3DR directly.
