Arducopter 2.9.1 Loiter help

Hi,

I've been lurking in the shadows for about 2 yrs now, and today it's time to come out for some help.

Firtsly though, let me just say what an epic journey it's been so far on the APM road. My first roject was a plane, wich duly levelled off in auto mode on the maiden flight and dissapeared into the sunset :( but, to my surprise, 2 weeks later I got a call, my plane was found! About 20 km away. Luckely I maidened in a very sparsely populated area of South Africa, and my plane nearly made it accross the border into Botswana - lesson learned, studied the Wiki, which was great! I still have my second plane, Parkzone Radian with nearly 200 hrs on it.

4 weeks ago I took the plounge and got a new quad, with the long term plan to move to an octo. After studying the Wiki, I got it flying quite nicely (Dave C tune was epic, amoungst others). I got an FPV setup to match and hit the skies. Again the documentation and forums was a big help. Thanks guys!

But, I have a problem and I cannot find a solution (or I missed it), I place the quad in a table hover, and without touching the throttle, I switch to Loiter, the quad then cuts power for about a second while dropping about 3m out of the air before Loiter catches it and moves it back to the height where Loiter was engaged - wierd? Any help with this would be great, thanks.

    Hi,

    Just an update in case someone else has this, I did auto trim flight in a steady hover (how to here: http://code.google.com/p/arducopter/wiki/AC2_AutoTrim). After the flight I noticed the trm_throttle was at 433. I copied this value into thr_mid and had a highe impact for the better (not 100% yet). This proved to be a little more exact than guessing.

    Dave was correct in his assesment of the problem, I had my wires crossed :(

    Thanks Dave, hover throttle is at 60% and thr_mid was at 500. I set thr_mid to 600 with no noticeable difference in behavour whn I switch from stabilize to loiter?
  • I'm guessing your quad is pretty powerful, does it hover at about 35% throttle? Have a look at your logs, see where your hover point is (where your throttle is when you are hovering) and enter this in the thr_mid param in the advanced param list. If you hover at 50% enter 500, if you hover at 30% enter 300. If you hover below this throttle - gets some smaller props!!!
