Hi everybody,

I had a terrible accident this tuesday. Before I get into detail, first I have to point out that antenna of my radio receiver was cut. Because I never tried further than 20-30 meters, I thought it was okay. I didnt even peel off its shielding cable to fix it.

Then shit happened...It was the first time I'm flying in a open field. So i wanted to try further. At about 100 meters away and 50 meters high I lost control. It started drifting backwards then descended very quickly and just before crashing into the ground, throttled very high at 1 meters from ground and started flying away.

Fortunately there was a tree to stop it.

Antenna of Video transmitter broke. One of the arm connection got loose. I'm very lucky that's all the damage.

I'm going to fix antenna of radio receiver. But what if it wasn't the only problem. That scares me beyond measure. I'm just a student and I spent a lot on this quad already, so i dont want my savings flying away.

Can you please check my dataflash logs :/ please...

  • The fact that you have a broken RC antenna would account for all of your issues. I would never, ever fly with a broken antenna as it can very easily lead to tragedy.

What you saw was the APM's built-in failsafe. If it detect a loss of RC control it (depending on your settings) will RTL. The first step in RTL is to get to the correct RTL altitude - 2m in your case. It should then hover across back to the launch point.

Without logs from your ground station, there's not much more I can tell. I would also strongly recommend that you always record your flights to a ground station laptop. These logs are far more comprehensive than the dataflash logs.

Also, you only got to a max altitude of 20m :)
