Arducopter 3DR?

Hi,

Just stumbled upon the Arducopter 3DR frame and now I'm confused. I was about to buy the Arducopter Quad kit as suggested by the wiki, but now I need to put that on hold until I get a few answers :)

1. Is this a new version of the frame and will it replace the current "official" one after a while (I deem the current frame "official" as it is mentioned in the wiki and sold as a KIT, whereas 3DR is sold only as frame and not mentioned anywhere other than the store)?
2. It looks bad-ass and being newer, I imagine better also. Is there any reason why I should be getting the "old" one instead of 3DR?
3. If I get the 3DR, is there something I need to take into account that isn't mentioned in the wiki manual (PIDs, parts, different configurations..)?

Sorry if these have been asked before - I tried to search, but not much came up other than few blog posts and 3 threads.

Thanks!

  • The stock one is kind of wobbly when stuff breaks.
The 3dr..shouldnt break i think, i went for the 3dr when my stock frame was dead(it still flew but had to takeoff from my hand).
  • Thanks, it's looking very promising. If anyone has more to comment, go ahead. For now it looks like I'll go with the 3DR.

Both are officially supported--it's your choice whether you prefer the original polycarbonate material or the 3DR carbon fiber. Both will work with the default settings right out of the box. Right now the 3DR frame does not come with motors, ESCs and props, but it will soon. You can use the standard ArduCopter motors and escs.
