  • Hey Duran awesome video, very impressive. Was that shot in the cape?

I just got my APM from Netram, after seeing your video I do not regret purchasing the ardupilot at all. You really have it dialed in.

I like your videos, as you know from my comments and praise.

On watching this one, which I enjoyed, I was also reminded of another video I stubbled upon a few days ago on youtube and wanted to share a line of thinking. Unfortunately, I haven't found the video again.

That other video, not yours, also used vignette edge darkening but to very poor effect. It made me realize how unsettling a video can be. When combined with rapid rotational movements and desaturation/color loss common in FPV-style cameras (my sony can even switch to bw automatically when light levels drop) it creates for me a sensation that I am about to lose consciousness, as if I am blacking out from a high-g turn. I find myself reacting with adrenaline, and tensing up my lower body and squeezing my torso to maintain sight.

The other videos you showed with miniaturization effects and vignettes had less extreme rotation. This one adds more rotation around the subject. If you were to add more desaturation or loss of color (shift to black and white for dramatic effect or as a result of changing lighting conditions) you would have a trifecta of visual effects which for some of your audience, it might create this unintended experience I had when watching the other video. Not everyone experiences these vertigo or stressful reactions, so I thought I would share. I would recommend caution about how much vignette is used during high rotation and during desaturation.... maybe even to the point of countering the effect by deliberately scaling back the vignette to a "wider aperture" during the rotation ... I suspect this will simulate the normal response of opening the eyes wider during these misadventures in real life and might help some people like me to avoid the unintended physiological response.
