Ardupilot 2.8?

May I first say how indebted I am to the DIY Drones Team for writing the code for the Ardupilot.

Whilst v2.6 worked well on my Easystar when I tried v2.7 I got servo 'twitching' in stabilze mode. Jason thought that this was due to the amount of processing that was now being carried out and that the Ardupilot board was being pushed to the limit. He also mentioned that a new serial driver may help and that this would be incorporated in v2.8. I notice from the SVN that although v2.8 was started there appears to have been no progress since September. I assume that the development teams limited time has been spent on Ardupilot Mega and Adrucopter.

Is the original Ardupilot still being developed or will Ardupiot Mega take over? I am not sure whether I have room for the mega board as I have a camera in the cockpit of the plane and the Ardupilot board fits nicely where the servo cutout is with the Rx on the other side (I have the servos mounted on the rudder and elevator to balance the weight of the camera).

  • hi everybody.

Are there any news about Ardupilot 2.8?

I know its an "old" hardware, but i don't wont to throw it again.

How about the "all in one" Ardupilot with MPU-600  IMU?

    nice regards

  • Thanks for the swift update. I will wait patiently for developments.
I cannot do flight testing due to limited field time but I am willing to help in any other way that I can.

Jason - Congratulations on the new arrival. I know from experience that when they say that life will never be the same again they mean it (in a nice way).

Hey, sorry. We had a baby a month ago and my ability to fly has gone to zero.
I could use some help testing, if I do a new version.

We're thinking about a major rewrite and just jumping to 3.0.

Alternatively, we may do a minimalistic change and just move ArduPilot over to the APM libraries, which are now pretty robust and tested, as we did with ArduIMU.

The problem with the current 2.8 is that it's somewhere between those two. The dev team is currently leaning towards the minimalistic port to the APM libraries, which should solve any timing issues along with bringing support of more GPS modules and other goodies, but we haven't decided for sure yet.
