Another Noob question, does the APM 2.6 need a ArduPilot Mega IMU Shield / OilPan Rev-H V1.0? is this something that plugs into the APM 2.6? I ask these questions as i go through the forums and see what people are using on the MR's, they never say what it does though. This is a major learning curve for me.

APM 2.5 doesn't need anything else. The IMU shield/OilPan was something used in the original APM, years ago, and has long since been retired.
If you're using APM 2.6, which is designed for an external compass, just make sure you choose the option of the GPS with compass, as shown here:
