Are SimonK ESCs OK with APM 2.6

Hi, I am an APM 2.6 user. I use this on my F450 quad. Last week one of my DYS 30A (SimonK) ESC went bad. ie: beeping continuously. I couldn't able to calibrate by any means. I've reflashed the firmware (TGY.hex) but still no use.

During the flights I've observed that when I suddenly pull the quad to any direction (for rapid movement), I could hear some weird jerky sounds from the motors, confused is this due to props or escs? I am flying with AC3.1.5 firmware, but no crash till now.

Since one of the ESC became unusable, I've decided to replace it. I just want to know whether SimonK ESCs works fine with APM or do I need to get a normal ESC for good performance. I've used this quad originally with KK2.1 board.

Frame: F450

Motors: Non Branded 2212/15 930KV Brushless

ESC: DYS 30A (SimonK)

APM Power Module

APM 2.6 + Ublox 6 GPS Compass

Props: 10x4.5 Nylon+Carbon

Battery: 3S 5200MAh 20-30C

  • In my experience, APM flies better without SimonK. More accurately: non-autopilot modes are fine (great, even) with SimonK, but any autopilot mode (including loiter) is better without. This includes RTL, so beware.

    Also: SimonK ESC's do not need to be calibrated and you are better off not calibrating them.

    • Thanks for the reply. I'm attaching a small video of my quad flying. One could hear some weird knocking sounds when I move the quad forward rapidly. Could anyone tell me is this the esc sync problem?
