Does the Auto takeoff mode work? I have only tried auto land and have been a bit skeptical of Auto takeoff feature.

Yes... I think so. I've been using it quite a lot. I just can't remember if I've modified anything that would make it work when it otherwise wouldn't. I don't think I have.
