I'm using APM 2012, but I've used other versions
The RTL mode works perfectly.
When I set up a three-position switch to Manual, Auto and RTL. Only Manual an RTL function, even when I configure for other modes (fly-by-wire, stabilize, Loitter), only RTL mode works.
When I move the three-position switch in the CLI modes are shown correctly.
Everything seems ok in the settings, waypoints are correctly recorded, but in the field autpilot always goes to RTL mode.
