Autopilot payload return.

Hello all,

I am an amateur rocketeer, the problem i have (apart from motor malfunctions) is getting the camera's and altimeters back without them being dunked into the sea or getting up a ladder to pull them off a chimney pot.
I want to know whether or not it would be possible to have a auto-piloted return (using ArduPilot etc..) of the pod to a specific gps location (i.e a nearby field), if it is possible then i can set the chute to launch at a low altitude ensuring it doesn't go to far from that point.

Regards

  • These guys used a balloon to go up, but high altitude recovery issues are likely similar.

There are a lot of nice looking Maple Seed style UAV projects. Have you looked at those?

Should be possible if you make that pod a little glider that departs the rest with camera and altimeter on board. Small space shuttle I suppose.

Guess the question is could the rocket lift glider and ardupilot, it will need power and servos.
