ok, so xbee is not working. I was asking if you have one because if this is a bad usb or solder connection, then the xbee maybe does not have it. So it would be an easy check.
But I think with the MAVLink crc errors, and with the MP not detecting which chip you have, that it is best to try to load 2.24 from Arduino IDE to see if it will load (if it loads, then USB is ok, I think) and also to make ArduPlane and MP at the right versions (1.0.72 & 2.24)
Then we see what problems exist. does the firmware load still report "not a 1280..." after upgrade? Does the debug on connect still show "MAVLink crc error"? We will see, after the manual upgrade, I think it will tell us more.
Do you know how to do a manual upgrade w/ Arduino IDE?
What version of firmware is loaded on the APM?
Make sure your switch is forward, to the front.
Make sure your COM17 port has Advanced Setting - RTS set.
