Basic working of mission planar

hello rc lovers,

this is my first post and hope it is in right category.

I am just a beginner in this radio control field and just trying to figure out how mission planar transmits and receives data at the same time. For example consider the setup of APM2.5, 3DR radios and mission planar. Here mission planar receives telementry data from UAV as well as sends data to UAV simultaneously. Can anyone tell me how this is possible? I have also learned that the radios are half duplex. So does the mission planar miss telementry data while transmitting to UAV?

You are correct in the the Physical Layer can only have one radio transmitting at a time. This is managed by the radios (not by mission planner) in that they coordinate with each other who is allow to transmit when, avoiding collisions and data loss. Its the same way that when people use voice on radio they say 'Over' when they finish talking to hand over to the other person, so they can speak.

To Mission Planner, ie. any ground control station, it appears as the link is full-duplex and they can send data when required.

    • So that means if i am controlling the UAV from joystick  through MP i will not be able to get raw sensor data from the UAV,right?
