BEC/ESC

Hi all,I have a hobby zone super cub, one of the newer BNF versions with real 3 wire servos. I replaced the combined esc/receiver with a turnigy 30A one and a spetkrum 6 channel rec. With ardupilot mega 2.012 installed it works well. However, when I plug in my xbee, I get twitching servos, especially in any non manual mode. After reading other posts on this I thought it was a ppm issue. I bought a programmer and ran the batch file in the manual. This reduced the servo twitching, but I still get some in non manual modes. I am now wondering if it is the bec.The esc has a built in 1A BEC. Is this likely to be enough for 2 servos and APM and XBee? I have found it very hard to get any info on just what is a satisfactory BEC size from searching the site. Should I consider a separate BEC?This is a brushed ESC as the plane has a brushed motor, if that matters.RegardsJames

  • Darren, I tried touching the xbee antenna and the twitching stopped immediately. I assume that the cause of my problem is RF noise then?

  • as an experiment, touch the antenna of the xbee on the plane side, and see if the twitching stops...

A 1A BEC is small, but I don't think that's the cause of the twitching servos. It's probably RF noise from the cables going to your Xbee. Try routing them differently and see if that makes a difference.
