beginner - frustrating

hi all,

2 issues, i think?

im reasonable new to rc and especially to the arducopter. i recently purchased the premade, ready to fly arducopter. i have plugged in my frsky 8 channel to the drone, plugged in lipo and all sounds and lights turn on. i have binded to radio to it, but the drone doesnt respond.

next, i pull out lipo (no power), put in miniusb to usb on my macbook pro running native windows 7 and drone powers on with lights, ok, i downloaded the recommended software, arducopter config 1.1 and then did the overwrite update.ok. now, i restart windows, open the software, change the settings according to the included sheet that came with the drone, so i enter in port 38400 baud, 30secs timeout and hit connect, but message comes up, VISA (hex 0xBFFF0011) insufficient location information or the device is not present in the system.

 

i have tried to search through forums for information before stating this, but now i dont know what to do.

anyone help?

  • Hey guys just wanted to know how sensitive this configuration and code upload process is? If I make mistake and basically screw it up somehow is it recoverable? I just can't seem to get the damn thing to configure through my mac running native windows. Is there some easier way, Maybe the new mission planner to be an option? Does anybody have quick clear concise steps to take for newbs?
  • ok, so i have plugged in batt, plugged in USB to PC, started up arducopter config and still no go! no flight software version displayed up top, status says its connected to arducopter however i go to raw sensor data and see no activity coming from the quad when i move it around. i am missing something that i need to do? the switch is on 1 or should it be on 0 .

  • I've seen this and am trying to remember the cause. Is the fly/CLI switch in the fly position?
  • i just figured out how to connect the drone to arducopter confi software :) by installing the USB driver located here - http://www.ftdichip.com/Drivers/VCP.htm . this tool me hours to find information about this.

    but now, do not know what to do, do i plug in LIPO batt to drone and plug in USB to pc then start up software config to use, i say this, because, if i just plug in with usb, it connects with lights on but no information with sensor reading come up.

    i should also mention when it is plugged in just with usb, on the board a orange LED blink, i think it says RX and my RX isnt powered on either which i think due to no batt power plugged in?
