Best altitude for mission flights

Question for APM/Pixhawk users.  What do you feel is the optimal altitude during a mission to get good visibility of the ground, but avoid crashing into trees?

I found that the drone can deviate by several meters horizontally, so it's not a good idea to set waypoints that weave in between trees, and it also seems to have trouble maintaining altitude.

I usually set alt at 50-60 meters to ensure I'm safe.  What are you guys using?

Thanks!

  • I use about 20m, but the area is flat and the tallest tree is about 15m also my "H" quad flies very level.

if I don't know the area I normally go at about 40m.

  • 35 will stay above all the trees. I use 40 most of the time. If you have hills you may need more.
