Board mounted sideways

Hello,

I saw (can't remember where) somebody mounting the board on the chassis frame sideways (viz. z and y axis permuted).

Is that setup OK and what are the implications in software configuration ?

Thanks

  • Thanks a lot for the info. I was afraid some sensors were required to be in a defined orientation.

    @Marc,

    We don't talk about this on the copter wiki but it's briefly mentioned on the antenna tracker wiki (because it's very common to mount an APM or Pixhawk in a non-standard orientation on an antenna tracker).

    Setting the AHRS_ORIENTATION will take care of rotating all the internal sensors (gyro, accels, compass).  If you're using an external compass (i.e. a GPS/Compass module) then the orientation of that external compass is unrelated/unchanged.  I.e. if you're using a 3dr GPS/Compass module you should still mount it with the white arrow pointing towards the front of the vehicle regardless of what the AHRS_ORIENTATION was set to.

  • Marc,  AHRS_ORIENTATION is the parameter that tells the code how your flight controller is positioned.  I have mine rolled to the right 90 degrees and all is good
