I am considering building a camera gimbal from scratch and I have seen many of them using brushless servos. Can anyone tell me the advantages and/or disadvantages of using these servos on a gimbal. Also can a standard AMP 2.5 control them. Thanks!

brushless servos? you probably mean motors. Those motors are controlled by a separate chip. That chip is not installed on an apm 2.5. So the APM cannot directly control them.
