Just wanted to share my situation with professional business users considering purchasing DJI...

Less than three months ago I invested over $15k in a fully loaded spreading wing series setup with supporting ground equipment. 45 days ago I purchased their LK900 Ground Station equipment so I could utilize autonomous flight in my photo and video shoots. They announced that this system I just purchased will no longer work as soon as next month because they do not want to upgrade the maps API to use a different provider than the depreciated Google Earth API. They are refusing to exchange my recent $500 LK900 purchase with the much cheaper and lower range $199 replacement version (2.4Mhz) because I bought it on Ebay. Their position is that they do not know when the LK900 was originally purchased. I understand their position but think it is negligible when it was purchased. My feelings are that if you have professional series customers who have made a $15k+ investment in your product and you depreciate a piece of equipment that makes that investment a paper weight then you send them the $199 replacement no matter what the circumstances may be or when the depreciated piece of gear was originally purchased. It is simple economics and customer service. Never before have I see a business whose cost vs. benefit logic results in a decision to take a firm position like this... They are losing tens of thousands of dollars in purchases over a product that probably costs them $75! This shows you how much they value and appreciate their professional series customers... I will NOT be investing any further revenue in this company and I encourage others to consider the same before making a substantial business investment with them.

P.S. Additionally be aware that with 2.4Mhz being the only solution for autonomous flight now you will have to choose between having a live HD down link and consolidated TX controls using their Lightbridge product or the ability to fly autonomously. You cannot do both due to frequency conflicts. This means the DJI Phantom now has more capabilities than the Spreading Wings series... what a joke.

Feel free to contact me if you would like to know more about the nightmare customer service and ongoing correspondence that has occurred over this issue, I would be happy to share and will be posting this on other forums as well as I wish someone would have warned me before choosing DJI to make a substantial business investment in.

  • Hello Matt,
I am still using A2 and Wookong with LK900 and PC Ground Station. Everything is still working. The only thing I've done about that is that all updates to my flying equipment are dissabled. The problem that I have now is that LK900 is messing up the L2 GPS signal that is essential for RTK Gps. Is there a way to adjust the LK900 somehow???
  • Hi Matt,

with UgCS (http://ugcs.com) you can continue to use your DJI equipment.

UgCS is compatible with 900 GHz DataLink.
