HAS ANYONE USED THIS ?

URBI Camera Controller with Zoom.

Our small USB controller lets you control a range of Nikon or Canon digital cameras for remote controlled or automated photography. Some Canon Powershot cameras also have controllable zoom. UrbiDualCase.jpg

The URBI connects to the USB port on the camera and takes input from a normal hobby R/C receiver in the aircraft. When triggered by the R/C equipment, it will instruct the camera to take photographs and move the zoom in or out (10 positions are possible). Zoom control is only possible with some Canon Powershot cameras. See compatibility below.

The interface has various settings which can be changed 'in the field' and retained when power is removed. Setup is performed using a push button on the interface with 2 LED indicators.

  • Canon AE mode can be selected from Auto,P,Tv,Av & M.
  • Number of shots per trigger can be set 1-9
  • TTL trigger input can be enabled for connection to a UAV autopilot or other circuit that can produce a 3.3v-5v pulse. Both shutter and zoom can be digitally controlled.
  • Intervalometer - timer based trigger can be set to release shutter 1-99 seconds.

Many operators like to use the viewfinder preview (video out) from their Canon cameras. The URBI interface will turn on the video out function for you, and also prevent the camera from powering down by itself, since many cameras feature auto power-off.

We now have many hundreds of these interfaces in use globally on many kinds of projects, the current evolution is the result of much customer feedback and testing. It is very reliable and straightforward to use. No batteries or external power is required, the connection to the R/C receiver provides power to the interface. The connection from interface to the camera is via a normal USB cable as supplied with the camera or similar.

Camera Compatibility Not all cameras are suitable for remote control, they must feature PTP Remote Capture functionality - unfortunately this is not usually listed in cameras specifications. Our intelligent driver software detects the type of camera connected and adapts at start up - there is one version of the interface, it works with all the suitable cameras.

FULLY Tested with the following
Canon Powershot G5, G6, G7, G9, G10 (RAW mode is not possible). G11 Not supported.
