My colleague and I have had issues with adding a stabilized pan control to our camera gimbals. I am using arducopter on a quad and my colleague is using a gimbal on arduplane. We both get the same results using APM 2's.
The roll and tilt commands work perfectly and we have full proportional control over them and they are stabilized correctly, however the pan is a different story, see the video...
We have correctly calibrated the radio, set up the max and min angles and servo travel. The pan servo works perfectly proportionally as long as we don't check the stabilize box.Obviously it is not stabilized. However when we do check the stabilized box then it all goes very weird as per the video.
Has anyone any idea's why this is happening?

Problem solved!
I don't know if we have missed this somewhere in the setup instructions, but unless the APM is pointing exactly North we get the above issue. If when starting up the APM it is not facing North, then the camera points to North hence the offset, which may not be where the APM is facing so its a great method for determining North! We just point the APM at where the camera is pointing and restart the APM.
Once the APM is aligned exactly to North, then the pan works flawlessly.
