Can Anyone Recommend A GoPro Gimbal?

Hi,

I want to purchase (or build) a 2 or 3-axis self-stabilizing brushless gimbal suited to the GoPro Hero 3 for my quadrotor and was wondering if any of you had experience with a model you would highly recommend (or avoid).

Of the gimbals I've looked at so far these are the top contenders:

------------------------------------------------------------------

Tarot T-2D V2

FeiYu Tech G3

DYS 3-axis SMART GoPro BL Gimbal

------------------------------------------------------------------

I like the Tarot a lot because it's mature, reasonably priced, and also the lightest gimbal I've seen. The down side is that it seems to be fussy about boot reliability.

A third axis would be ideal (I'm looking for yaw stability -- not the ability to pan remotely) and I've seen the DYS unit priced under $200 -- but the sample clips I've found don't showcase its yaw stability.

One reviewer did place the FeiYu Tech G3 head-to-head with the Tarot and demonstrated the G3 was slighter smoother, but what I'm taking away from the reviews in general is that with regard to build quality and stabilization, they all seem more or less similar with nothing really setting them apart except price.

Cheaper units from EBAY and RC Timer also seemed reasonably stable but they all produced an audible whine that to me just screams 'bad engineering'.  No pun intended.

Thanks!

  • Crady,  I only have experience with the Tarot. Firmware 1.4.  Well worth the money. No problems with booting with me. Bought mine from ReadymadeRC for $140.

    • Thanks, David.  Good to know. I'm a bit concerned about yaw stability without a 3rd axis -- maybe overly so?  How about the motors -- any low torque issues?

      • Crady,  No problems with lack of torque.  I am using the stock axis and motor power parameters. Mine is on a traditional helicopter.  A third axis ( yaw ) would be nice but it adds a lot of bulk to the contraption.

        • Cool.  Do you have any links to your videos I could check out?

          • Crady, No video links right now. All my video has just been testing and is extremely boring. However, by next weekend I should have something of interest.
