This software doesn't have a Windows installer per se. It's just an unzip into a directory.
Of course you have can't tinker with any of the subdirectories.
I have Windows 7 so can I install it anywhere. I have an I: drive that is empty and would like to put it there.

Sorry, my bad, I'm getting mixed up. I was installing the development software for arduino boards from the arduino website. So I'm posting my question in the wrong spot.
But I do at some point want to install Mission Planner for a APM2 board. I don't have the board yet, and the instructions seem to indicate that you need the board connected to the computer so the proper driver can be installed during the install process of mission planner. Is this so? If it is, I'll wait until I buy the board.
What software are you referring to? If you mean the ArduPlane software, you don't need to download it at all. The Mission Planner will download it and upload it to APM for you.
