I am currently trying to change the flight mode while flying my copter but cannot do it properly. Using mission planner's actions tab I can change the flight mode while the copter is disarmed on the ground without issue. Once I arm the drone it no longer responds to mode changes.

I am using a 3dr DIY quad copter kit and a frsy receiver bount to an iris+ controller. I am unsure where the problem lies and am starting to think it may have to do with the configuration on my handheld controller. If anybody has any insight or recommendations as to where to look please let me know and thanks in advance!

  • Hello.  Did you ever figure this out?  I have the same problem. As soon as I arm my Pixhawk, I can no longer change flight modes.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.  Thanks!

    • Actually I just solved the issue the other day. There were two issues and things you should check out. Firstly make sure the controller you are using is properly configure to handle the flight modes that you are trying to set. My controller had lost it's default settings so make sure that you can change the flight mode with the controller first.

The second issue was the rate at which my pixhawk was transmitting data to the ground station so fast it never had time to read the port. If you are losing control of the pixhawk check to make sure that it's the arming and disarming that interfering with the ground station's control and not the telemetry stream. When I had this second issue I seemingly had full control until the telemetry data started coming in, so that is easily fixed by lowering the rates in the MP configuration tab. It's under planner option. Turning everything down to 1 or 2 got mine working perfectly. Best of luck, let me know if this still doesn't fix your issue, I may have other information based on what results you see from these.
