I am currently working on a science project at my high school. I am looking for any information you may have regarding carbon fiber airframes. I currently have a EPP (foam) airframe that ripped in two from the forces the motor gave off. Do you know of a company that might be willing to donate carbon fiber? Or a company I should talk to for more informations? Check out the whole project at heatseekingdrone.wordpress.com. Thanks For Your Help

Hello, my name is William Schmidt, and I am currently a student at Drexel University in Philadelphia, PA. I am currently working with drones for an engineering project, and your project seems to be similar to what were looking to do. Seeing that you have some experience, I would really appreciate if you could answer a few questions for me when you get the chance. Thanks.
William, this post is from 2013 so the poster is unlikely to respond. However I can try to answer your question.
Evan, you don't need and for a number of reasons you don't want a carbon fiber airframe. A properly built Foamie will be plenty strong. On anything but the smallest airframes, the motor needs to be mounted onto some sort of mount that is then attached to the foam over a wide area for strength. I can't really tell how bad that damage is but if I were to try to fix it I would glue it back together with hot glue and then shove short sharpened bamboo rods coated with epoxy into the foam so they cross the break area (you can get bamboo sticks like that at a big grocery store, they are used for fondue etc.). You can also strengthen an area of foam with epoxy.
