Confused about the difference between ardupilot and arduimu

I have seen the extended guide on building an ArduPilot but how does the ArduIMU differ. I've looked up IMUs and they seem to work using accelerometers and gyros. Doesn't the ArduPilot already do this? I got interested in ArduIMU after watching a talk that Chris gave last year.I have a parts list for ArduPilot, how does this list differ from the one for ArduIMU? Also, where can I find out more about the features of ArduPilot mega vs regular?thanks

  • It's a bit confusing because they both have microcontrollers capable of doing all the functions of an autopilot, but redundancy is the cost of making 1 piece of hardware that does everything.
