Hi
I have read many articles regarding using the UART0/2 or UART0 to connect the GCS. I have tried "everything" to get communication on these ports with no luck.
Right now i'm connecting a serial cable directly from my computer to the APM2 board. No xbee, 3dr stuff or anything else. Does the UART0(/2) port support direct communication at all?
Is it 3.3 volt or 5 volts, or maybe it supports both ?
is there any code change or soldering required ?
Could someone please explain what to do and what is required to finally communicate on this port ?

Connect +5V, GND, TX, and RX. Everything is 5V.
This port is NOT a RS232 serial port. It is 5v TTL serial. You cannot directly connect a computer's serial port to it.
You need a 3.3v or 5v TTL USB to serial cable. Most 3.3v adapters will supply 5v for the power and work just fine. They cost less than $5 from ebay or China sources. You will need one of these for all sorts of serial communication. Almost everything uses 3.3v now, and it normally works with 5v systems. Also no chance of burning your 3.3v devices out.
Check your tx, rx are connected right. Just switch them to test. Some devices switch the labels, some don't. Not sure what the labeling the APM is using.
Make sure you're using the right com port and the right speed.
Should work just fine. Pretty simple.
Anyone...!??
