crash - advice needed!

Hello All,

We have built X5 with APM2.6. We hope to use it for aerial photography. Unfortunately, it crashed really badly -  After ‘auto-takeoff’, it suddenly went into a straight vertical dive. The parameters are here: http://upload.droneshare.com/view/22u4ix I cannot figure out what was the problem. Any advice from experts would be appreciated!  Thank you, Gai

We use the X5 in the same way, it flys well. Was this the first flight. Was it tuned. Was the CG correct, was it hand launched or catapult, was your RTL altitude set. My guess is the CG was on the 2 pips as the instruction, it's not good, all my X5s are balanced 20-25mm in front of that point
    • Thank you so much! This can be considered to be the first flight. We launched it three times before that, but only to test the auto-take off; without any long flight plans. It was hand launched. RTL altitude was set. But it crashed between reaching the default altitude and the first waypoint. CG looked correct, but I would love to hear about your method for balancing it 20-25 mm forward. How do you achieve that? I will be grateful if you could explain and maybe share your param file. Thanks again!

The x5 is know to become unpredictable if it is carrying more than just the basic rc receiver . Battery and servos. The dive of death can happen anytime . It will usually drop a wing first and then Fall out of the sky. The APM cannot recover from this and when my x5 did this nothing I could do would restore control, the fix is to move the equipment to balance at 20-25mm in front of the pips or add lead in the nose, I have over 100 flights with this set up on 3 planes
