Hi all,

First I would like to thank all involved in this project. It is great platform!

I have been playing with Arducopter 2.9.1b for a while with success. The RTL saved my skin many times. :)

Unfortunately not today I am not sure what exactly happen but I think my "camera mount" failed.

Here are 2 pictures of before and after: https://plus.google.com/photos/100742609299267040656/albums/5892632433785405537

I was flying fpv in stabilized mode. I was trying to see how fast it can go. Then during rapid descend I cut the throttle too much and quad started to spin, I put the throttle back up to stabilize it when the vision cut off completely. When I took off the goggles I saw it spinning down. It did not stabilized I switched to loiter mode with no effect. It hit the ground. I did not have much trouble finding it. One of the motors was still spinning other 3 were hot because those stalled.

I found all the pieces in one place except the camera. I spend about a hour looking around but was not able to find it. GoPro3 bit of a loss :(

I need the logs to find out what was the speed and attitude in moments leading to crush. I hope this will help me find the camera. With all the excitement of a moment I can not recall anything beyond I was trying to go down fast cutting the throttle to almost 0. I not sure if I have any horizontal speed or even in which direction.

For some reason the Ardupilot (Android application) did not recorded the log. I tried to download the logs from the APM but no luck. I removed the APM from the quad and connected to usb. It connected ok. I opened the console and hit the "Log Download" button but it was unable to list the logs. I saw strange characters in the cli (what you get when connection speed is wrong or dump binary data to screen) only couple of characters like that and then silence/nothing. It  never completed the listing of files. First time I got however the check box with "1" and then it spilled those "random" characters. Since this did not worked I tried the cli. I got listing of 34 logs starting with 1. good - so I typed "dump 1" and got similar behavior as with GUI - unreadable data going to to screen. Relevant file was created in the logs folder but has 0 bytes. I repeated it again with the same result.

After that the log with number 1 is no longer listing. the response to "logs" command start the list with number 2.

Here is the questions if someone can answer it. Is there a way to dump the content of dataflash chip content? Any other ways to recover the flight data?

If there is no tool that will do it I would like to create one. I think there should be a cli command to dump the flash chip, not at file level but lower level. or maybe mount the file system under remote host?

Those numbers that come when you issue "logs" like this:

ArduCopter V2.9.1b] logs
logs enabled: ATTITUDE_MED GPS PM CTUN NTUN CMD

35 logs
Log 2, start 1519, end 1546
Log 3, start 1547, end 2531

what is "1519" is that flash page number or index in log entries? could I create command to arbitrary specify that number range say "dump 0-1518". Any pointers will be appreciated.

The Ardupilot (android application)  recorded correctly previous flight: http://www.droneshare.com/view/zddosp so you can pick all the parameters and setup.

I was able also to recover it from APM as well using "Log Download" it was the number 2 log, number 1 is missing.

Regards Maciej

  • Video from the crush is uploading now: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EMRBF7x_uT4

Logs is attached. I was able to recover the log using "Log Download" button it just got shifted to position 34 so I did not find it initially. The log I recovered using "dump 0" method had lot of bad data. something went wrong. But the attached log is clean.

I am still puzzled what actually happen. Any input would be appreciated.

One thing that is suspicious is the sound the motor makes while I try to stabilize it again (time index 00:50). It sound like a motor stall?

    Damage so far:

    - all props are bend, one broken

    - bottom power distribution plate cracked

    - one arm broken

    - skew planar antenna bend

    - one arm has motor mount bit melted, (motors were smoking hot when I found it)

not much really for this kind of fall

  • Update,

I had a look around the code and I find out that "dump" command will interpret argument <=0 as "dump all". So I did "dump 0" on logs and got couple of minutes of watching cli data flying trough. Eventually the Mission Planner stopped responding but I let it finish and got one massive log. I copied it from screen to file (extra argument for the command to dump it to the file would be nice, I will have a look at it later on). What a mess the logs are.... but I was able to find the interesting section and render it in Google earth. I find out what the quad was doing just before the crush and found the camera exactly where it should be according to the logs.

So I am happy today :). Now I would like to find out what exactly happened and what went wrong. I will post the logs and recordings from camera later on. Camera landed in grass and I think it is OK no visible damage. It kept recording for long time after crush. I will make sure it is completely dry before turning it on.
