designing for a BWB flying wing airframe

I'am thinking of designing a BWB flying wing planform for my RC UAV project i just know the basic aerodynamics nd aerofoil terms if anyone could help me out where to start things from it wud be very nice there are a lot of information available on the web but nothing seems to be systematic for my endeavor to design my own BWB airframe and i need to start from scratch pls ny help or suggestions

  • Well, it's not a very intuitive program but check out Xflr5.  You can download it free from the web.  Flying wings are tricky however and I'm not sure how well this program will handle it.

Pros: Lots of useful data and graphs (polars).  Easy to model your design in 3D using any airfoil for which you have coordinates.

Cons: It's not very intuitive or user friendly; steep learning curve.  Also, it was designed mostly for gliders/non powered flight so data regarding thrus/power required are not accurate.  I did find some youtube videos that helped me learn the program and the site for the program has a forum/FAQ page

  • If this is still alive...? im willing to model the craft in solidworks. dose any one have leads on designs or a good plane to plane to model. Im thinking flying wing. I have access to a Lazer cut lab.

  • Hi what sort of design do you have in mind ? or material.

because you can carve out from a solid block of foam or you can do what the balsa wood guys does my frame then add skin to it.

would be useful if you have a sketch drawing .

as for me I use the sandwich frame style because of the properties of the chosen material in my build
