DJI-style GPS protection

Hi all,

Would I be correct in assuming the DJI shield their GPS module in the phantom? If so, what material are they using? And would it work for a 3DR GPS/compass module too? (I know the Phantom compass is mounted in the legs btw).

My next build, I want to put my GPS/compass underneath a canopy, but this will bring it close to the electronics/power lines. I would like to shield it if I can, but IIRC, this may shield the compass from earths magnetic field as well as the RF noise.

  • I understand copper and aluminium do NOT shield magnetic field. The upgrade kit for Iris to Iris+ includes a copper shield for the GPS-Magnetometer unit.
