Do I need a BEC?

Hi, I'm a bit uncertain as to whether I need a BEC to power the output side (where I plug in the ESC cables) of APM 2.6?

I have DJI OPTO ESCs so they don't have BECs installed on them.

I also have a 3DR Power Module that is supplying power to the rest of the APM. Could it also supply power to the output side of the APM since there are no BECs in the DJI ESCs?

I'm still trying to figure this all out and I thank you for your help in advance.

  • Thanks to all the responses to this issue. I removed the jumper and am using the 3DR power module, but I'm running into an issue where my motors don't respond to my Turnigy 9x. I've calibrated the radio using mission planner and I make sure that the APM has a solid red arming light.

    Anyone have any ideas?

  • Is there a reason you need power on the output side of the APM? Your OPTO ESCs don't need it. Unless there's something else you need to plug in to the output, as Bill said, just remove JP1, plug in your PM and call it a day. The PM can power your APM, RC Receiver, MinimOSD and telemetry radio if you have them.

You just need to remove JP1. no need for a BEC on the Outputs side. The power module will power the APM.
