I want to mount the GPS at the top of a multicopter I'm about to build but I want the rest of it protected in the center of the frame.
Looking at the picture of the APM2, it looks like I can unplug the daughter card and use a 12 pin ribbon connector to move it to the top. Is that accurate? If so, why get the "external GPS" option?
Sorry just confused about the description/option and trying to figure out if I really do need to order the one without the GPS built in plus the external MT3329.

Hi David,
See this post for a detailed discussion:

Short story - The shield is technically removable, but it is soldered in position and you may cause damage trying to remove it. If you want to mount your GPS away from the main board, choose the APM2 No GPS option (-$15) and buy the external GPS. Same goes for magnetometer.
I don't know enough to know if this is a stupid question or if it's just that no one knows yet.
Anyone?
