Do Receivers (rx) and Transmitters (tx) need to be the same brand to bind?

Do Receivers (rx) and Transmitters (tx) need to be the same brand to bind?

For example, I have a Spektrum Dx7 that binds GREAT to a Spektrum AR6115e.  But, I also the FrSky DR-II receiver that I would prefer to use in my shiny new Iris.  Can I bind a Spektrum Dx7 (tx) to a FrSky DR-II receiver?  If not, do I just need to by a "same  brand" transmitter?

    You need a 'dsmx' or 'dsm2' receiver to bind with your dx7. besides spektrum, I know hobby king sells dsmx receivers under the orangerx brand. I am using one with a dx8
