Dear forum friends,
I write to you on behalf of DŠGS FlyEye Team.
Needs for spatial data are greatly increasing nowadays. Use of Google Earth and similar services based on Earth surface images is no more part only of geodesy and remote sensing professions, but has spread into almost every home. Professional aeronautical and satellite systems are extremely expensive, that is why small UAVs (unmanned aerial vehicle) are becoming more attractive, powerful and affordable, thus allowing development of new innovative methods of capturing spatial data.
In DŠGS (Slovenian Students of Geodesy Association - non-profit organization under the auspices of the University of Ljubljana) we wish students could be able to keep pace with the times and get familiar with such modern methods through study program. That is the reason we started the project of building our own UAV (quadcopter) suitable for spatial data capturing. For us project itself presents a challenge and great opportunity to learn about modern technology over the course of building. Once quadcopter will be built we will organize workshops for all students where they will be able to get familiar with such system.
Built quadcopter, which will be owned by DŠGS, will be available to the Department of Geodesy (University of Ljubljana, Faculty of Civil and Geodetic Engineering) for use in lab lessons and for teaching contents related to the topic of remote sensing and photogrammetry. We set costs of building at 1.000 € and the goal is to finish our project by the end of May 2014. Here we call upon you, if you would be willing to support our project and help future generations of students to learn about modern technology. So please, if financial assets allow you, donate and help us run the project.
More information can be obtained from our website. When you make a donation you can send us a message and we will publish your personal/business informations (logo, name, website, email) under Donations tab/page as a sign of gratitude. Project activities will be regularly updated and presented under Project tab/page.
Thank you for supporting our project.
Yours sincerely,
DŠGS FlyEye Team
