DYI High alt. drone

Hello,im new to the hobby and was wondering if anyone has cosidered using a iphone as a on board reciever through an open call line or data line, with possibly a ps3 controller six axis board bridged by bluetooth (or other means) to the phone for auto flight stabalizer ability and lighter weight. The reason i ask if the phone can be intergrated is for longer range, higher altitude, batt run time with a video feed and would be nice  if  pc controlled. There is alot of available sensors and curcuits in circulation and sometimes a dyi could see these a parts as possibly more practile to use and at a lower or no cost to the hobbiest if these parts are comon to find.Is there anyone building these types of models made from other electonic devices?Do you think this type of system is worth the time and effort? Can this type of system allow higher alltitude drones on a smaller scale? Can permissions be granted to fly such a device to these hights?

I think the next coolest drones will be reaching higher altitudes and longer ranges and can be controlled sitiing on the couch watching and comunicating from your hg tv.

What do you think of such efforts to try somthing like this?

  • All these dreams of high altitudes/long ranges are just that, within two years as the GPS/waypoint technology drops in price and the potential chaos that could be caused by the 'Grand theft auto' types within urban settings the Goverment will act accordingly..regretfully it will be the 'soft' lawabiding targets that will be hit..rather like the handgun/dangerous dog legislation that has little effect here in the U.K. So fellow quad flyers, I'm lucky to live rural,  we never see the Police(as the spate of farm equipment thefts/growing incidence of sheep rustling shows) buy hey I'll still be flying..illegally of course ;)
